1. new year, new price.

    It’s a brand new year, and with every new year comes changes. We have been putting work into our little game, and while our major 1.2 update is not ready due to our earlier roadblock, changes are still due.

    With that said, you all will be please to hear that as of today, Shapes & Sound: The Shape Shooter is free on Google Play! If you enjoy playing it or know someone who would, help us out and share it! You guys and your support means the world to us - without you, we would have no one to enjoy the experiences we create.

  2. overcoming roadblocks.

    *No Through Road*
    *Detour —>*

    We have all in some way or form, literal or abstract, encountered roadblocks. They seem to have the uncanny ability to occur when we least expect them and at the most inconvenient of times.  Unrelenting and totalitarian, our plans are quickly steamrolled over. Roadblocks are quite a scary occurrence for some. I have heard it said, they are a sign from the universe that you were doing the wrong thing, going in the wrong direction. Admittedly, this does happen, roadblocks can and do save you from pitfalls that lie ahead - pitfalls that you might not otherwise see. Roadblocks are then not an exclusively negative phenomena. They incite awareness and remind us that behind the scenes — that 90% below the surface — there is work to be done and being done. Work that when finished will result in a bridge we can cross, a path we can tread.

    We the ARRG crew have been hard at work to bring you a worthwhile update. It is with mixed feelings that we report of one such roadblock, more specifically a harddrive malfunction. The last 24hrs have been spent in misbelief and this is no doubt, one of the more frustrating miss-occurrences that can befall a developer. Discouraging though it may be, we will survive and we will overcome.

    There’s nothing quite like the feeling you get when a fresh new wallpaper graces your desktop. As we progress through our massive update, we feel pretty excited, and though our excitement came these two new Shapes & Sound wallpapers. We present to you the friends and enemies wallpapers.

  4. united we stand.

    When we first started developing Shapes & Sound, we were using a program called Corona to build it. We used Corona right through our first initial release on the Android store. While we successfully made a smooth experience, the language/engine was extremely limiting and thus a lot of our better ideas simply remained on paper. It uses a language called LUA, and while it is commonly known language, we felt that it was about time to move on. That along with the fact that our Corona license was about to expire, we needed a new, more powerful alternative.

    Cue Unity 3D - a 3D game development engine with endless possibilities. While our game is a top down 2D shooter and Unity focuses on 3D gaming, it is definitely a more powerful tool than Corona is for our purposes. It also works with more popular languages such as C# and Javascript which are not only stricter languages but used much more widely than LUA. Thus, this allows us to learn and utilize languages that are not just limited to a single engine. Furthermore, Unity recently made their engine free. What more of a sign did we need? The switch was inevitable.

    We had to make a very hard decision however - we either had to stick with Corona and its limitations to deliver minor updates and an iOS version of the game, or, delay updates and an iOS version and create a much, much greater experience. We decided that the latter was the way to go. When we launched, we delivered to you our best. With Unity now at our fingertips, our “best” has vastly surpassed what was originally delivered, and you all deserve nothing less than our best. We’ve been working extensively on a brand spankin’ new build of Shapes & Sound and we are quite excited for you all to see our progress.

  5. all nighters.

    While working on a project, there are some nights when you come across a malicious problem that rattles your brain and due to your determination, you stay up all night trying to find the solution. Other times, there is no problem and you are so delighted by your progress that you continue to press forward ‘till your friend the sun peeps through your window, just to say ‘hey’. Either way, all projects have all nighters somewhere in the mix.

    This is where we started out in terms of the design, and boy have we come a long way! At this point we never even had a menu yet. It’s always helpful to look back to where you started, otherwise you will never truly realize how far you have come.

    Hello friends & fans! We decided that it was finally about time to create a blog for our lovely little product in order to properly keep you guys up to date.
